October 31, 2020 (WILDWOOD, NJ) — Today it was every fiend for him or herself as witches, demons, superheroes, cops, firemen and a whole cast of ghoulish spirits squared off for Trunk or Treat at Fox Park on Ocean Avenue. Though no one can recall whose idea it was exactly - like some sort of spell cast over the quaint shore town - one thing was for certain: City Hall employees and Wildwood citizens descended on candy and treats like their lives depended on it. Sponsored by 98.7 The Coast, this event was a joint effort led by Rich Hans, Superintendent of Parks & Recreation, and co-organized by Sue Maxwell, Confidential Assistant to the Board of Commissioners comprised of Mayor Pete Byron and Commissioners Fitzsimons and Mikulski. Volunteers generously donated their time, tricked out trunks and candy to bring a smile to the faces of the little ones who have made great sacrifices this year amid Covid-19. However, their safety was at the forefront with masks required (the Covid-19 kind mandatory; scary ones optional), gloves or tongs for candy disbursement and social distancing afforded by a beautiful October day. The Mayor hinted that the event would likely be back next year...even bigger as he nodded to a line around the block one hour into the event.
